80 Cent Quarts: Lewisburg 1972
Back roads paved and otherwise
Drive forever
The case of beer in the front seat almost gone
Got to get to Lewisburg for 80 cent quarts
Past the Lonely Hearts club
A rough tumble town
Two bars and a gas station
Walk into the bar
Hostile stares from aging men of the soil
Long hair rowdy kids intruding on their domain
Pounding cheap quarts of beer
Then back to town
Over the rough ribbed roads
The days before mad mothers
Three passed out in the back
One waking to retch
The rest of us
Finishing the 12 pack
Empties rattling on the floorboards with each bump
Back home again
Safe in bed
Too drunk to dream
Swearing never to drink again
Knowing it will last
Till the bars open tomorrow night
